GenDEPOT obtains donor horse serum from closed herds that are carefully controlled andinspected by veterinarians. Horses are regularly tested for equine infectiousanemia using Coggins tests. Horse serum is a cost-effective alternative tofetal bovine serum (FBS) and can be used as cell culture medium in a variety ofsettings. As with all GenDEPOT sera, we carefully monitor donor horse serummaterial collection and processing to ensure that the end product is consistently high quality.

Before collection, the donor horses are given a controlled dietdesigned to deliver the ideal nutrients. The horses are also fasted beforecollection to ensure lower lipid levels. Bleeding occurs in an environmentspecifically designed for clean collection. Part of our process includesmeasuring physiochemical constituents to ensure lot to lot consistency. Alllots of our Horse serum are 0.2µm sterile filtered and feature low hemoglobinlevels. In addition to standard donor horse serum, we offer additionaltreatment options, including heat inactivation, gamma irradiation, or specialtyfiltration.
